Radio 5 is a Spanish all-news radio station owned and operated by Radio Nacional de España (RNE), the public radio division of state broadcaster RTVE. Launched on January 1, 1989, it was Spain's first 24-hour rolling news radio service.
The station provides continuous news coverage, with bulletins every 30 minutes and headlines at :15 and :45 past the hour. Its programming includes short 5-15 minute segments on topics like science, health, economics, and history, as well as expert analysis of current events. Traffic and weather updates are provided in partnership with Spain's traffic authority and meteorological agency.
Radio 5 maintains a commitment to public service broadcasting, with a focus on independent, immediate, and rigorous reporting. While most programming is in Spanish and broadcast nationally, some regional news is produced in local languages through RNE's territorial centers across Spain.
The station can be heard throughout most of Spain via FM and AM frequencies. It is also available online and through podcasts, allowing listeners to access its 24/7 news coverage across multiple platforms.
