Launched in 1986 as a pirate radio station called Rádio Cidade, it became legal in 1989. The station experienced peak listenership in the mid-1990s, becoming the second most listened radio station in Portugal. In 2003, it rebranded as Cidade FM and expanded to multiple cities across Portugal. Currently owned by Bauer Media Group, Cidade FM broadcasts on various FM frequencies throughout the country, including 91.6 FM in Lisbon. The station's programming includes popular music shows, news updates, and interactive segments catering to its young demographic.
