Radio San Gabriel AM 620 is a prominent Aymara-language radio station based in La Paz, Bolivia. Founded in 1955, it has a long history of serving the Aymara people and is known as "The Voice of the Aymara People." The station's mission is to empower the Aymara community by enhancing their cultural and linguistic identity while also providing Catholic faith formation.
Originally established for evangelization and literacy purposes, Radio San Gabriel has evolved to become a crucial medium for Aymara communication, education, and cultural preservation. The station broadcasts on AM 620 kHz with a power of 25 kilowatts, reaching the Bolivian departments of La Paz, Oruro, and Potosí, as well as parts of Peru and Chile.
In 2001, the station relocated from La Paz to El Alto, expanding its infrastructure and programming capabilities. Radio San Gabriel offers a diverse range of content, including news, educational programs, cultural shows, and religious broadcasts, all primarily in the Aymara language. The station continues to play a significant role in supporting Aymara identity and providing a platform for indigenous voices in Bolivia.
