The station's origins trace back to 1983, when a group of Catholics identified the need for a Catholic media outlet during Pope John Paul II's first visit to Guatemala. After overcoming various challenges, they acquired a radio frequency and Radio Estrella was officially launched on April 4, 1986, with the blessing of Archbishop Próspero Penados del Barrio.
