International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT) is Taiwan's only English-language radio station, providing music, news, and information 24/7. Founded on April 16, 1979, ICRT emerged from the former US military's Armed Forces Network Taiwan (AFNT) after the United States broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan.
ICRT is operated by the non-profit Taipei International Community Cultural Foundation (TICCF) and relies on corporate sponsors and revenue from events rather than government funding. The station broadcasts from studios in suburban Taipei, with transmitters covering all of Taiwan at 100.7 MHz in northern and southern Taiwan, 100.1 MHz in central Taiwan, and 100.8 MHz in the Chiayi area.
The station's programming focuses on music, news, emergency announcements, community information, and entertainment. ICRT serves both the expatriate community in Taiwan (about 5% of its audience) and acts as a cultural bridge to the local Taiwanese audience (95%).
ICRT's schedule includes popular shows like "AsiaNation," "Greatest Hits of Music," and specialized programs such as "Jazz Flavors." The station also offers news broadcasts throughout the day, including content from the BBC and local news coverage. Educational segments like "A-Fu's Taxi" for learning Chinese and "Language Links" for English vocabulary are part of ICRT's cultural exchange mission.
