Power FM, also known as Power 98.7 FM, is a South African commercial radio station based in Gauteng. It was awarded an FM radio frequency commercial license from ICASA on 15 December 2011 and began broadcasting on 18 June 2013.
The station is owned by MSG Afrika Investment Holdings, led by Given Mkhari, with shareholders including Ndalo Media and Zico. Power FM broadcasts primarily in English and operates 24/7, targeting listeners aged 15-49 in the LSM 6-10 range.
Power FM's programming format consists of 70% talk and 30% music. During weekdays, it broadcasts talk content from 5 AM to midnight, with music from midnight to 5 AM. On weekends, the station plays music around the clock, interspersed with talk elements.
The station aims to provide a platform for South Africans to engage in discourse about the country's future and to be themselves without baggage. Power FM's lineup includes well-known personalities such as Lawrence Thlabane, Siki Mgabadeli, Eusebius McKaiser, and Tim Modise, offering a mix of current affairs, entertainment, and informative programming.
